Gippsland Silvicultural Burns, Autumn 2023

HVP Plantations are planning to conduct silvicultural burns of post-harvest residue throughout West & South Gippsland between April and June 2023. To achieve a safe and controlled burn, the timing of each operation will be dependent on localised site and weather conditions.

Burns are planned near the following localities: Blackwarry, Boolarra, Callignee South, Flynn, Jeeralang, Grand Ridge, Gormandale, Jumbuk, Longford, Rosedale, Stradbroke, Turtons Creek, Wonyip & Yallourn North.

The harvest residue has been placed into heaps and/or windrows, and a mineral earth break constructed around the boundary to reduce the chance of escape.

HVP Plantations operate seven Forest Industry Brigades throughout Victoria that are registered with the Country Fire Authority, and maintain a fleet of firefighting resources and appropriately trained and skilled staff. All burns are registered with VicFire, but do not currently appear on the ‘VicEmergency’ app. Relevant neighbours and authorities are notified prior to ignition of each area.
