Gippsland Weed Control Program (Spring 2019)
September 24, 2019
HVP Plantations will be conducting weed control programs throughout Spring 2019, including (but not limited to) Gippsland plantations near Seaview, Yallourn North, Rosedale, Longford, Stockdale, Carrajung, Won Wron & Turtons Creek.
The program is designed to control both noxious and competitive weeds, and ensure adequate survival and growth of our trees. By conducting effective weed control before and after planting, herbicide applications are generally limited to two (2) applications per 30-year crop rotation.
Ground and aerial herbicide application will not take place unless strict weather parameters are met. Operations are currently scheduled for late-September 2019 – December 2019, but may be delayed if weather conditions are unsuitable. HVP records both weather and product placement in real time, with ground staff monitoring changes in the micro-environment and adjusting operations accordingly. Helicopters are equipped with state-of-the-art spraying and satellite guidance equipment, and experienced pilots are used to accurately place products within the forest environment. No fixed-wing aircraft are used.
Ground staff will install on-ground signage in advance of each operation, to highlight specific areas being treated. Buffer zones are used to ensure operations are both safe and contained.
All products used by HVP are registered for use in Victoria, and have been approved by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).
