Mystic Park, Bright – harvest, haulage & replant
January 30, 2019
HVP Plantations wish to advise of upcoming harvesting and haulage operations in the Mystic basin of Bright, which will continue the lifecycle of pine plantations in this area.
The plantation area shaded in green on the map (shown below) is due for harvest, commencing 4 February 2019 and continuing into March. The crew will take approximately five weeks to harvest the trees.
The worksite and a number of mountain bike trails feeding into the worksite will be closed for the duration of the operation. For everyone’s safety, be aware of increased heavy vehicle traffic, machinery and some road closures within the plantation.
Worksites are hazardous, and risks to people’s safety are not always obvious. Please respect all signage.
The lower section of Mystic Lane will remain open, with stop/go traffic management in the plantation when machines are working close to this road. There may be delays of up to 10 to 15 minutes at these times.
The current crop of trees is between 24 and 30 years old, and ready to be converted into sawn timber and other building and paper products.
Our drivers will transport the plantation logs from the Mystic worksite to HVP’s customers in Myrtleford, Wangaratta and Benalla.
Transport will commence a week or so after harvesting commences, and is expected to continue from the Mystic harvest site to early April. The haulage route (shown on the map) includes Mystery Lane, Mystery Link and Mystic Lane, then out on to Morses Creek Road and around to Churchill Avenue.
From March to May, trucks will also pass through the Mystic plantation from a nearby Wandiligong worksite using Robinson Road and Moran Road. During busy holiday periods we will avoid using this route as much as we can. Arrangements are being made for essential permit holders to still be able to access the Mystic launch when trucks are on this route.
PREPARATION & TREE PLANTING
A new crop of trees will be planted in Winter 2019. Crews will control weeds and use excavators or bulldozers to prepare the harvested site for replanting.

We have been working closely with Alpine Community Plantations (which oversees recreation in Mystic Park) to plan this operation. For the latest information on Mystic trails, please follow Mystic Park, Bright on Facebook, or download the free Trailforks app to check for closures.
Please note: after the trees are harvested in the worksite and we’re preparing to replant the area, trails leading towards the site will be assessed for which will be first to reopen. Others may need to stay closed while they are reconnected to the trail network.
