North East Pre-plant Aerial Weed Control Operations

March 28, 2017

HVP Plantations wish to advise of upcoming weed control operations in the plantations in the North East region of Victoria.

This weed management operation will see the application of liquid Glyphosate and Metsulphuron-Methyl applied to the area being planted in winter this year. Areas being treated include plantations located at – : Smart Creek, Stanley, Ovens, Merriang, Porepunkah, Bright, Wandiligong, Basin Creek, Shelley, Warrenbayne, Toombullups, and Mountain Bay.

A helicopter will be used to accurately broadcast the planting area. The operation is scheduled to commence in early April, will take approximately 2 weeks, and will be delayed if weather conditions are not suitable.

HVP will install on ground signage in advance of the operation to highlight the specific area to be treated. Buffer zones are employed and ensure the operation is safe and contained. Buffers of 200m are applied between the operation and residential dwellings, and 30m between the operation and protected waterways and adjoining properties. Strict operational control particularly with respect to weather conditions will be observed throughout the operation, to ensure no off-target application.

This operation is being used to ensure that the newly planted trees have reduced competition for water and nutrients this summer. By ensuring effective weed control at this early stage of growth, weed control operations are generally limited to the first year of their 25-year rotation.

The use of herbicides in Victoria is in accordance with the Agriculture and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) (Herbicides) Regulations 2007. Further information can be found at
