Stackey Gully, Bright: Harvesting & haulage May/June 2021

April 1, 2021

HVP Plantations wish to advise of upcoming harvesting and haulage operations in the Stackey Gully Area of Bright, which will continue the lifecycle of pine plantations in this area.

Harvesting
  • A plantation area in Stackey Gully, Bright (shaded in green on the map below) is due for harvest, commencing early May 2021 and continuing into June. The crew will take approximately six weeks to harvest the trees.
  • The harvest worksite and a number of roads feeding into the worksite will be closed for the duration of the operation. For everyone’s safety, be aware of increased heavy vehicle traffic, machinery and road closures within the plantation.
  • The current crop of trees was planted through out the 1980’s and ready to be converted into sawn timber and other building and paper products. Please visit our operations page for further information about the plantation lifecycle and the range of HVP operations.
Transport

Our drivers will transport the plantation logs from the Bright worksites to HVP’s customers in Myrtleford, Wangaratta and Benalla.

  • Transport will commence a week after harvesting commences, and is expected to continue from the site until late June 2021.
  • Timber will be transported out of Stackey Gully Rd onto the Great Alpine Rd. Residents of Stackey Gully Rd and Walnut Grove will note changed traffic conditions in the first section of Stackey Gully Rd, refer to plan below for more detail.
Preparation & tree planting

A new crop of trees will be planted in winter 2022. Crews will control weeds and use excavators or bulldozers to prepare the harvested site for replanting.

The management of pine slash left after harvesting may also include a combination of mechanical site preparation as well as burning.

Safety

HVP takes safety seriously, please note the following:

  • Worksites are hazardous, and risks to people’s safety are not always obvious. Follow the directions of all signage and forest operators.
  • The worksites will be closed to all public access (walkers, riders, vehicles) for the duration of their operations. This includes when the crew is not present.
  • For everyone’s safety, obey all safety signs, and be aware of increased heavy vehicle traffic and machinery.
Community recreation

HVP recognise that many community members have an affinity with our forests, and enjoy walking, running and bike-riding activities throughout the year. Before entering any plantations, please undertake a visitor induction and apply for a Human Powered Pass.
