Summer Harvest Moves to Otway’s District

HVP Plantations wish to advise that the annual harvest program in the Otway District has commenced and will continue at various locations until late Autumn next year.

Residents and the general public are advised that log trucks will be using local roads including: Winchelsea – Deans Marsh Road, Bambra-Aireys Inlet Road, Boonah Road to access operations at the Retreat  Plantation at Boonah, Pipeline Road, White Peg Road, Larpent Road, Carlisle Road, Underwoods Road to access Irrewillipe Plantation at Colac.

Thinning and clearfell crews are expected to move into the Aire Valley Plantations in the New Year, where log trucks will be using Beech Forest- Mt Sabine Road Bins Road, Seaview Road, Beauchamp Falls Road.

The clearfell operations will see the harvest of all plantation trees in the forest coupe for subsequent transport and processing into sawlog for housing and other construction and chiplog for pulp and paper manufacturing offshore. Logs are transported for processing to Colac, Geelong and Melbourne.

The thinning operations will see the selective harvest of some of our 11-13 year old trees and the subsequent transport of logs to customers in Geelong and Melbourne. The thinning operations are being used to maintain tree growth and healthy conditions of the remaining trees.

To improve safety outcomes, HVP Plantations have undertaken an upgrade of the Boonah Road which services the Retreat Plantation and worked with DELWP to upgrade Pipeline and White Peg roads.

HVP Plantations have contributed to the Surf Coast Shire Dust Suppression Program in an effort to improve outcomes for residents in vicinity of the Retreat Plantation at Boonah.

On ground signage is in place to highlight the specific areas of the operation in the plantation. All of our operations are subject to fire and weather constraints and customer demand and may be altered without notice. However effort will be made to keep you informed.
